9月14日托福真题重现
Agree or disagree:
Younger school children should be required to study art and music in addition to studying math, language, science and history.
很多同学在看到这道题目时,会觉得这道题并不难,但是还是有一定跑题的风险,因为很多同学直接忽略掉in addition to studying math, language, science and history, 只关注前半部分,大谈特谈study art and music 的好处或坏处,这样写的话就有跑题嫌疑了,因为文章中有个暗含的条件是在学习math, language, science and history 的基础上,是否要去学习art and music。笔者的思路是,学生要学习音乐美术和基础课程(数学,语言,历史和科学)。理由分别去论述,学习基础学科的好处和学习音乐艺术的好处,最后让步总结。
9月14日托福范文如下:
Education, especially elementary education, has always been the permanent topic in our times. One indisputable fact is that the quality of younger children’s education is in consistence with the future of a certain country. Therefore, when it comes to what course younger children should study, people varying in personalities and backgrounds view the same issue from different angles. However, from my own perspective, it is advisable to require younger children to study art and music apart from math, language, science and history.
For one thing, it is necessary for younger children to study the basic courses including science, math, language and history in that these courses can equip them with various skills needed in their daily life. For example, the calculating skills acquired in the math will enable them to buy pencils and erasers in the stationery stores without being cheated. By learning science, younger children will understand the common natural phenomenon such as the formation of snow and rain, which will in turn stimulate their interest in learning science. The language course will teach them how to express themselves in a proper and polite way. Learning history will make them memorize significant events happened in the past and thus have a sense of belonging.
For another, it is also essential for children to study art and music because art and music play a crucial role in stimulating their imagination and develop their potential capabilities. According to a survey conducted the Psychology Department of Boston University, those who received music or art education in their early age are more likely to have creative thinking than their counterpart who do not. What’s more, the early age is a critical period of education in which children acquire something quickly and efficiently. If a children has a talent for music, the music education in his early age will definitely enlighten him and help him become a master in the future.
Admittedly, some opponents may point out that studying all these courses in such an early age will put a heavy academic burden on children and thus have a negative effect on the healthy development of children. However, those opponents are ignorant of the fact that studying art and music is not a heavy burden but an effective way to relieve the stress brought by the basic courses such as math and history. Therefore, judging from what has been discussed above, it is safe for us to draw the conclusion that younger children should study art and music while studying math, language, history and science.
